"Hurry, Raffaele, Hurry!"
It was about to rain, and we were at our community's tot lot. Theresa was in the stroller. "Now," thinking to myself, " how do I get Raffaele to move? He's two. He may not understand the concept of us needing to leave the tot lot now, separating him from his beloved ladder, slide, and swings, so that we can get home before the rain starts."
So, I started walking quickly with the stroller, while encouraging Raffaele to run, with "Hurry, Raffaele, Hurry!" He loved it! It was a new thing for him. And with this, he learned the word, "hurry." As we ran home, he couldn't help but stop a few times to try to look at the occasional leaf or rock or other thing he saw, so I'd have to encourage him again with, "Hurry, Raffaele, Hurry!" He would laugh as he ran, repeating, "hurry! Hurry!"
What a sweet boy. Now when we are outside and the first droplets of rain begin, he immediately says, "hurry! Hurry!"

Wow, you've been posting a lot lately! I'm glad to hear that the kids are doing so well.
E!
I love your posts. I get C to come in from the swing set in our background by asking "if she would like to lead mommy and R in by marching in?" Sure enough, she marches like the she's in Monty Python and in we go. Funny what works, eh?
I also like that you two, like us, have a no-yelling, no spanking house. K and I talked about how-both of the above raise the level of intensity of a house in general. We have a "it's a problem to be solved, not a battle to be fought" rule. About everything. Always.
80% of the time-if C is fussy or doing things she's not supposed to be doing-she's hungry (this is the case most of the time) or overly tired. Which means that WE have not done our job making sure that she's been fed and taken her nap on time. The other 20% is solved by giving her positive attention. (I've noticed that she gets that-"I feel like misbehaving what can I do look" when I've been focusing on R for more than a few minutes.
Kuddos to you-love that you're posting.
I admire your commitment to thoughtful parenting.
Thank you, Christina and Claire. I'm trying to be better about posting again and doing it more frequently. Having a blog forces me to write about what's going on with our lives, because I have "followers," and I feel like I owe it to them. However, more importantly, I do it because it's neat to journal the history of our lives; it's something that I can pass on to the next generation(s).
Thanks, Christina. It sounds like you and I are doing the same things with our children. :)
